This first Escuelita is located in Limon Dos, in southern Nicaragua. Founded in the spring of 2007 to help underprivileged children, Una Escuelita is helping children learn about life through art. Our first "Escuelita" is 3.25 hours from Managua and 30 minutes from Lake Nicaragua, near the Costa Rican border. Here, in this safe haven that's become a cornerstone of the community, a growing number of children show up everyday to learn! They receive a much-needed nutritious meal, help with homework, arts & crafts and music lessons, schooling in a variety of languages, science lessons, and a chance to participate in fun and games. Everything provided is free.

Remarkably, a local and international community is showing up, too-to teach, to cook, to gather gourds to be painted, to sing songs, to teach English, to raise money, and to help the children in Limon Dos develop a creative appreciation for and approach to life that will continue to serve them over time.
